WORKING WITH SME's
|
|
After a considerable period offering myself as a consultant I moved over to working directly with SME's. The change was driven by the apparent lack of support available to SME's from other accountants. Young business need access to advice and support at any time and not just at year-ends. Most of my time is now spent with a growing number of small customers (1-5 employees) helping them grow their chosen business to full potential.
The services I offer them are:
- The complete or part outsourcing of the accounting function leaving the business owner time to work on the business.
- Management accounts and business reviews.
- Monthly wage preparation and the production of wage slips wage journals and the yearend routines.
- Completion of CIS (Construction Industry Tax Scheme) monthly returns.
- Help and support on VAT, Self-assessment, Corporation tax and other government returns.
- Production of yearend accounts (reduced prices for QuickBooks users).
- Budgets and cashflow forecasts for internal and external uses.
- Support with visits from bank managers.
- VAT and PAYE/NIC inspections.
- Training and support on QuickBooks accounting system (All versions) including help with the set up of opening journals and agreement with old accounting systems.
- The formation of new companies along with the setting up of VAT and PAYE.

business UFBS and to build long term relationships with our customers.
I charge on either a fixed hourly rate fee, a fixed fee for the job or on
cost saving exercises a percentage of the savings. In this way your commitment
is controllable by yourselves.

Working as an independent consultant has provided me opportunities to do a wide

|
|
I specialize in system implementation and design, with the emphasis on cost
reduction using the experience gained while in my present role along with working
experiences for the companies listed below. In this age of increasing costs
the key to fighting these are strong systems coupled with management controls.
Proper well documented systems are your first step to gaining BS5750 or ISO9000
which all expanding businesses require.
These skills have been used to take one company from a small private company to
part of a large listed plc. They have also encouraged me to invest in my own companies
and do the same for myself.
- TAYLOR FREEZER (UK) PLC
Financial Director and Company Secretary 1st January 1986 to 10th May 1996
I joined Taylor's just after a Management Buy Out that had left them with
no in-house systems. A management accountants dream, a clean slate on which to build, where
each system you install shows an instant improvement. The company required all
you would expect from a new set-up, registration of VAT, PAYE/NIC, payroll bureau,
and a computer installation. At this stage invoices were still being typed by hand.
It did not take long to install an integrated Sales, Purchase, Nominal and Stock
system along with support systems. In 1987 the company was faced with the challenge
of EDI, which was still in its infancy, and this soon added to the systems functions.
In 1992 the service side required development and the Service Manager concept
grew with information required on serialized machines, service history and
full call logging providing customer care.
